A principal and a faculty president have confirmed the payout to Marikina City public school teachers under the Aid to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), facilitated by Marikina 2nd District Rep. Stella Quimbo.

Speaking on condition of anonymity due to fear of reprisal, the principal and the faculty president corroborated earlier claims by a group of Marikina public school teachers about the payout, which happened on April 21 to 23 at the Q Civic Center.

“Mayroon talagang nangyaring payout at naroon po mismo si Cong. Quimbo sa Q Civic Center habang pinamamahagi ang AICS. Halos lahat po ng guro na nakatanggap ay nakita siya sa venue,” the principal confirmed.

Both officials also admitted helping validate recipients in their respective schools prior to the distribution.

"Nag-alangan ako noong una dahil malapit na ang eleksiyon, ngunit sinabi sa amin na ito'y para sa mga kapwa niyo guro. Kaya ginawa ko na lang po ung validation," the faculty president added.

Previously, a group of Marikina City public school teachers urged the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to investigate the distribution of the said financial aid.

The teachers also backed up their claim with video and photo evidence, including photos of Rep. Quimbo present at the venue during the payout.

The group also sought clarification from the DSWD on why teachers were included in the AICS program during the election period. They further asked the Civil Service Commission to consider administrative action against those behind the payout.

“We also requested the Department of Education to look into this right away and remind everyone not to take part in any activity with political involvement or money matters during election time,” the teachers said.

The Motorcycle Taxi Technical Working Group (MC Taxi TWG) has imposed sanctions on Grab-Move It, the Grab-operated motorcycle taxi platform, for repeatedly violating government-imposed fleet limits and failing to comply with mandatory reporting rules under the motorcycle taxi pilot study.

In a formal order, the TWG directed Grab-Move It to rightsize its fleet to what has been allocated to them by the government and stop operations in areas where they have not been granted authority to operate, such as Cebu and Cagayan de Oro.

Grab-Move It has also been directed to fully comply with reportorial requirements on activation, deactivation, and reactivation of riders.

The sanction stemmed from a December 2024 Show Cause Order, where motorcycle taxi companies have been asked to explain allegations of breaching its rider allocations.

Records submitted to the TWG confirm that Grab-Move It was allowed 6,836 motorcycle taxi units by the government, but it was discovered that it operates with at least 14,662 riders— more than double its allowed number, and deemed “colorum” units against the law.

Grab-Move It was also found to have failed to report rider status changes, a key compliance requirement. The company did not refute this lapse in its response.

The TWG noted that these violations resulted in thousands of unauthorized motorcycle taxis on the road, raising concerns over safety, transparency, and regulatory oversight.

The company was likewise ordered to halt operations in Cebu and Cagayan de Oro, where it was operating without any approval or allocation from the TWG.

The Motorcycle Taxi TWG warned Grab-Move It that failure to comply with the directives will lead to further regulatory measures, including suspension of its authority to operate.

Aside from its failure to follow regulatory procedures, Grab-Move It has been criticized over a series of accidents and viral complaints involving reckless rider behavior, putting their onboarding practices and enforcement of safety standards in question.

Sen. Raffy Tulfo, chairperson of the Senate Committee on Public Services, also called the attention of Grab for the policy requiring drivers to shoulder the 20% fare discounts granted to students, senior citizens, and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).

The Philippine Competition Commission (PCC) revealed during a Senate probe that Grab has already been fined millions of pesos for fare-related violations.

Since 2018, Grab has been penalized with fines amounting to ₱86.7 million, including ₱16.15 million for fare standards violations and driver cancellations.

Project 1000 in the Philippines is Natalie’s second 1000 km ultramarathon, following her successful run throughout Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore last year. More than just an athletic feat, the project aims to raise awareness and support for various charities dedicated to empowering women and girls, making it not just a test of endurance, but also a run for a cause.

Everyone's best friend Jollibee joined Natalie as she kicked off the run last April 21 in Santa Ana, Cagayan. Several branches across North Luzon have also served as quick stops for Natalie and her team, who all enjoyed their jolly favorites.
