ETC, the Philippines’ number one free-to-air female entertainment network, shakes up local programming as it launches its newest primetime block called “ETCerye” — the channel’s first foray into the Tagalized foreign drama series. For its initial offering, “ETCerye” presents the Turkish dizi “Everywhere I Go.”
Since early 2000s, dizi—as the sweeping epic dramas from Turkey are called—have been “invading” the world. They cover genres such as comedy and romance, to thriller and action. Audiences worldwide have been mesmerized by the engaging storylines, relatable themes of family and love, scenic locations (mostly shot in picturesque Istanbul), original soundtrack, and stunningly gorgeous cast. A recent article in UK’s The Guardian reported that about 150 Turkish dizi have been sold to 100 countries.
One of these is “Everywhere I Go” (Turkish title “Her Yerde Sen”), a story about a serious businessman, Demir, and an ambitious female architect, Selin, who are surprised to know that they each own half of the same house. Neither Selin nor Demir want to sell their share and move out. To make the situation more challenging, not only must they put up with each other at home, they also need to get along at the office as Demir turns out to be the new boss at the firm where Selin is employed.

It's the bayanihan spirit that kept us all moving in time of crisis, and being in a situation where literally working hand-in-hand is off-limits, still, we all try to improvise to accomplish what is ought to be done. The Republic Biscuit Corporation (REBISCO) recently launched new programs to aid the continued education of school children during the pandemic. As the Department of Education (DepEd) pushes for online learning at home to curb the spread of the virus, REBISCO has come up with a series of learning materials in various formats that both educators and students can use.

Supplementary Learning Kits

Last July, REBISCO began its distribution of supplementary learning kits to 240 public schools in NCR. The kit contains school materials such as pencils, crayons, and other basic school supplies. According to Quezon City, Pasay, and Las Piñas school divisions, REBISCO is the first private stakeholder to respond to DepEd’s “Bayanihan Para Sa Paaralan” which seeks for support from private sectors in producing modified learning materials fit for home education. As the effects of the global pandemic were utterly unexpected, support from private entities are very crucial in accomplishing all planned activities for restructuring and reorganizing the education system to cope with the changes.

Activity Worksheets

Supplementary activity worksheets were also produced by REBISCO and will be incorporated into the printed modules that the DepEd will distribute to students once the school year officially starts on October 5. These will reach 351 thousand learners from the early grade.

In its effort to build a healthier Philippines, Sanofi Philippines turned towards empowering mothers and spotlighting their critical role in managing their family’s health. The global pharmaceutical company recently launched their new campaign entitled Panatang Sanofi with the Pinay matriarchs at the heart of their advocacy.

“The mother is the cornerstone of the Filipino family. She is caring and selfless when it comes to attending to her family’s health,” said Amal Makhloufi Benchouk, Country Lead of Sanofi Philippines. “This is the kind of lifetime commitment we strive for in Sanofi as we build a healthier Philippines. There is no greater embodiment to our panata than our beloved mothers.”

Makhloufi was one of two speakers during the recently concluded online discussions entitled “Healthier/PH Sessions: Continuity of Care for a Healthier Philippines,” where she exchanged thoughtful dialogues and shared insights in front of an audience consisting of moms.

“As moms, we cannot afford to be sick or else who will take care of the family?” exclaimed Broadcast Journalist and the event’s moderator, Niña Corpuz. “A lot of us have to really be more proactive. It's really better to be informed and to be educated about potential health concerns so that we know that what we're doing is the best thing for our family.”

In response to the disruption that the pandemic has caused across the country’s healthcare system as well as a growing fear and apprehension towards seeking medical consultation for risk of contracting the virus, the Company has initiated programs in order to deliver better care.

“Even before the pandemic, Sanofi Philippines has been aiming to bridge the gaps that many Filipino families face when it comes to accessing consultation and treatment,” the Country Lead shared. “This is where we want to play a role and it’s part of our mission to build a healthier Philippines.”

Over 150 fishermen from Barangay Bagasbas in Daet, Camarines Norte received newly upgraded boat engines from PLDT, in a bid to aid the residents' fishing activities for their livelihood.

In partnership with the Philippine Business for Social Progress, PLDT turned over boat engines that are more superior in quality, as recommended by the beneficiaries themselves. The Super Kaiao KA 192F model will allow them to sail and navigate towards the deep parts of the sea where big fishes are more likely to be found, which will lead to increased income to support their families, especially during this difficult time.

“We are committed to equip our fisherfolks in far-flung communities through our boat engine donations. We hope that this will enable them to utilize livelihood opportunities amid the pandemic,” said PLDT Public Affairs Head Ramon Isberto.

PLDT also donated two sets of personal computers each at Barangay Bagasbas and the Municipality of Mercedes, Camarines Norte. Its wireless subsidiary Smart turned over a School-in-a-Bag, a portable digital classroom that uses mobile technology, while the PLDT-Smart Foundation donated Sack-of-Joy or school supplies kits to Bagasbas Elementary School in Daet and San Roque National High School in Mercedes.

Last year, PLDT also turned over a rescue boat to Daet Municipal to aid the community in case of calamities, and established a Service and Sales Center to accommodate the connectivity and customer needs of the residents. The PLDT and Smart business offices are collocated in Daet. These initiatives and more are part of PLDT’s continuing community assistance efforts for residents in the far-flung community of Daet, where the company's cable landing station is located. 

 

The boat engine donations were from PLDT’s Balik-Baterya funds from the PBSP-Motolite Balik-Baterya Program. Launched in 2006, the program involves the collection of used lead-acid batteries (ULAB) for proper recycling and production of new automotive and industrial batteries. These are also used to support various corporate social responsibility projects.
