As we ready ourselves to re-experience life with face-to-face social interactions, going back to old routines can leave some feeling unsettled. So how can we stay on top of our health and continue to keep ourselves defended with the changes around us?

#VStrong everyday with the help of the first-ever Vicks vitamins

With the evolving landscape of health in the world, Vicks Philippines introduces their first-ever vitamins, Ascorbic Acid + Zinc + Cholecalciferol (Vicks Immune Defense) to help provide daily immune support, along with proper diet and exercise. It contains a combination of Vitamin C (as Sodium Ascorbate), Zinc, and even high-strength Vitamin D.

Vicks Immune Defense – Vitamin C, Zinc, and High-strength Vitamin D.jpeg

As parents who also have a full-time job, being on top of their day to day health has always been a priority for Celebrity couple Regine Velasquez and Ogie Alcasid. “We eat healthy, get enough rest and sleep, a little bit of exercise, and of course taking vitamins daily.” says Ogie. He adds, “Good thing Vicks – a brand that our family have loved and trusted for so many years, has this product to help support our immune defenses.”

Regine also shares, “Being a mom, we always want the best for our family. I like researching about the things I give my family especially when it comes to health. We made the switch to Ascorbic Acid + Zinc + Cholecalciferol (Vicks Immune Defense) because it contains the three vitamins and mineral we look for.” Instead of taking separate tablets to get Vitamin C, Zinc, and Vitamin D, the couple is happy to find a 3-in-1 vitamin product for their daily dose of immune boosters.

Being extra cautious when it’s about health has been a norm in the past few years, and now that we are slowly able to get back to old routines and out trying new adventures, the couple continues to ensure their health is in check. “Being healthy is like an investment; and with people relying on us, it’s important for us to continuously take care of ourselves so we can take care of our family and pursue our passions.” shared Regine and Ogie.

Our immune system naturally protects us against illnesses, so it’s important that we continuously support it to help keep it functioning smoothly. Vitamin C and Zinc have long been known to help boost the immune system. Vitamin D, on the other hand, has gained popularity recently due to discoveries about its key role in innate immunity, which is the body’s frontline response to novel pathogens. Vitamin D helps regulate the production of harmful substances and modulates our body’s response to inflammation, thus helping our immune system fight infections. These 3 ingredients found in Ascorbic Acid + Zinc + Cholecalciferol (Vicks Immune Defense) work synergistically to help provide 3-in-1 immune defense, along with proper diet and exercise.

Each capsule of Ascorbic Acid + Zinc + Cholecalciferol (Vicks Immune Defense) contains 500 mg Vitamin C (equivalent to 562.43 mg Sodium Ascorbate), 10 mg Zinc, and 1000 IU Vitamin D3. Available in all leading drugstores and supermarkets nationwide or shop online at Watsons, Southstar, and P&G Health Official Shopee Store.

Health experts, together with local government units, called on medical groups, government, and stakeholders to create a coalition to champion flu immunization specifically for older adults. During a media roundtable discussion organized by the Philippine Foundation for Vaccination (PFV) and the Philippine College for Geriatric Medicine (PCGM) last June 6, 2022, Philippine College of Physicians Vice President Dr. Rontgene Solante said it’s about time the country has a whole-of-society approach to better protect older adults against influenza, “We would like to protect this population against exacerbation of other infections. Decreasing hospitalization among this population will also have an implication in decreasing complications like diabetes, stroke, even hip fracture, and cardiac complications. This partnership with the government and private medical societies–these are very important to move forward. This is for the greater good of the population.”

PFV’s Executive Director Dr. Lulu Bravo, who has always championed the health and well-being of senior citizens through vaccination, couldn’t agree more. “Our senior citizens should be aware of the different free vaccines available to them, especially for influenza. In the near future, we might even have new Quadrivalent flu vaccines (QIV) for added protection. This vaccine includes the same strains as the trivalent vaccine (TIV) we’re currently using now, but with an additional B strain. This means the QIV produces a higher antibody response in patients 60 years old and above compared to the TIV. But introducing new types of vaccines, especially to older adults, has been a challenge. We need the support system of the entire medical community, our LGUs, as well as the private and public sector, especially the media to champion flu immunization for older adults,” Bravo said.

According to Philippine Society for Microbiology and Infectious Diseases Former President Dr. Remedios Coronel, our older adults are vulnerable to many diseases because of immunosenescence or the lowering of immunity as people get older. It is important that family members and seniors should be immunized against vaccine preventable diseases such as influenza. “Influenza vaccines are safe. It’s very effective in decreasing the severity of hospitalization especially among our older adults with comorbidities”, Coronel quipped. In the

Philippines, Influenza-attributable deaths account for 5.09 deaths every 100,000 persons. It is highest among individuals 60 years old and above.

PCGM President Dr. Eduardo Poblete said the PCGM has recently released statements of support and policy recommendations to further enhance the system in combating influenza, pneumonia, and other respiratory infections among older adults to promote their health and wellness throughout their lifetime. “We are suggesting a holistic approach to try to promote the health and well-being of all the older Filipino adults by promoting vaccine confidence among the elderly, promoting preventive medicine including fall prevention, vaccination, self-care and maintaining functionality,” Poblete said.

At the local government level, the City of Pasig is beefing up efforts to roll out its flu immunization program for older adults. Pasig City National Immunization Program Medical Coordinator Dr. Angelo Saquitan agrees with the health experts that there is a need to create a coalition to champion influenza immunization for seniors. “This is for everyone’s benefit. The whole community will benefit if our seniors are vaccinated against the flu. Prevention is always better than cure,” Saquitan said. He reiterated that the vaccines have been tried and tested for years, and are perfectly safe. “I really think a coalition to champion flu immunization for older adults will help increase our flu vaccination rates and better protect our seniors,” Saquitan added.

Procter & Gamble (P&G) continues to be a force for good by making responsible consumption possible everyday for all consumers in line with its environmental sustainability goals dubbed “P&G’s Ambition 2030”.

Committing to amplify the call to give more sustainable living choices and options for consumers, P&G partners with Watsons, the health and beauty retail chain, with P&G’s Forest for Good program. This partnership is an initiative to help conserve and protect nature, restore forests, and make it easier for consumers to practice integrating sustainable solutions through seeing the impact they create from planting trees and supporting forests. Consumers now have the chance to adopt a tree located in the Sierra Madre Mountain Range. Watsons’ customers who wish to participate can purchase any selected P&G sustainable product worth P500 in participating stores from June 6 to July 31, 2022 and sign up for the program.

“We are very excited to be P&G’s selected retail partner for Forests for Good. It’s not only doing good for the planet, but it is also extremely innovative and engaging for our young tech-savvy customers. Thank you P&G for giving us this privilege to work with you,” said Viki Encarnacion, Watsons PR and Sustainability Director.

Launched last year, P&G’s Philippines Forests for Good program is part of its long-term commitment to make an impact on environmental areas of climate, water, and waste. Located in the Sierra Madre, dubbed as “Luzon’s backbone,” the mountain range stretches 500 kilometers along the eastern coast of Luzon, similar to a spine, and acts as a shield against super typhoons and storm surges. P&G has entrusted the first few thousand trees to each of P&G’s employees. Through the program, employees, and now Watsons’ customers, are able to name their trees, see it virtually and monitor its environmental impact while also learning about the tree and the farmers who planted it.

“A step to a more sustainable future starts at home and all of us being responsible consumers. On P&G’s part, we are using our brand and organization expertise, operations and scale to find meaningful ways to protect and conserve the environment while continuing to serve our consumers with the best products. We have started using alternative materials in our product bundling and point-of-sale materials found aiming to reduce the amount we use or make them more reusable,” shares Raffy Fajardo, President and General Manager of P&G Philippines.

The global company has declared its Ambition 2030 commitments and interventions across its brands, supply chain, employees, and partner communities in order to protect and conserve the environment. P&G has already made innovative changes in reducing, recycling, and recovering waste to make their commitments into reality. By the end of the decade, the company is eyeing to eliminate the use of virgin plastic by 50 percent and make product packaging 100% recyclable or reusable.

Specific to its products, Safeguard Philippines multipacks now use 100% recycled paper cartons from previous virgin plastic overwrap packaging. This reduces 8,500 km of potential plastic waste or a thousand times the length of the Boracay coastline. Additionally, Herbal Essences shampoo bottles are now made of 25% post-consumer resin which are from recycled plastic waste. Head & Shoulders also introduced refill pouches made with 50% less plastic vs bottles. Furthermore, P&G has partnered with World Vision’s Pag-asa Sa Basura initiative that enabled the upcycling of recovered sachets into 2,000 classroom chairs that were donated to partner elementary schools.
