Helping Moms Win the Daily Mealtime Battle: Ajinomoto's I Love Veggie-Licious® Caravan Inspires Healthier Family Tables
8/06/2026 04:04:00 AMPreparing healthy meals is one thing. Convincing children to actually eat them is another challenge altogether.
For many Filipino moms, every mealtime is a balancing act between nutrition, taste, budget, and the preferences of every family member. It's a familiar struggle that often leaves vegetables untouched on the plate and parents wondering how to encourage healthier eating habits at home.
Recognizing this everyday reality, Ajinomoto Philippines Corporation (APC) officially launched the 2026 I Love Veggie-Licious® Community Caravan at the Dapitan Sports Complex in the City of Manila, bringing together mothers, homemakers, nutrition advocates, and community leaders for a day of practical learning, cooking inspiration, and family-centered nutrition education.
Rather than simply telling families to eat more vegetables, the program demonstrated how simple cooking techniques and the right use of flavor can make nutritious meals more appealing, even for picky eaters.
The event welcomed participants with interactive learning booths, educational games, and engaging activities designed to make nutrition easier to understand.
Around 327 homemakers from the City of Manila also joined discussions that helped separate nutrition facts from common misconceptions, including conversations about monosodium glutamate (MSG).
One of the day's highlights was a live cooking demonstration featuring family lifestyle creator Prax Yap together with APC in-house chef Khyle Furigay, who introduced a creative "Kiddified Lumpianada." The recipe showcased how vegetables can become more exciting for children without sacrificing nutrition or flavor.
The message resonated with a growing concern among Filipino families.
According to the 2021 Expanded National Nutrition Survey (ENNS) of the Department of Science and Technology – Food and Nutrition Research Institute (DOST-FNRI), Filipino adults consume only 58 grams of vegetables and 17 grams of fruits each day, far below the 400 grams of combined fruits and vegetables recommended daily by the World Health Organization.
For parents, these numbers highlight the importance of introducing healthier food choices at home while children are still developing their eating habits.
During his welcome remarks, APC President Daizaburo Koga underscored the value of community partnerships in encouraging healthier lifestyles.
"Over the years, we have had the privilege of working with local government units and communities in Quezon City, Lucena, Alaminos, San Jose Del Monte, Santa Rosa, and Pasig. Hand in hand, we have reached thousands of homemakers by sharing simple ways to prepare nutritious meals that every family can enjoy. These solid partnerships remind us that change begins when communities come together with a common goal," Mr. Koga shared.
His message reflects the heart of the I Love Veggie-Licious® movement: empowering families through practical knowledge instead of complicated nutrition advice.
The initiative also supports the Ajinomoto Group's 2030 commitment of helping extend the healthy life expectancy of one billion people while reducing environmental impact by 50 percent. More importantly for Filipino households, it offers realistic solutions that parents can apply in their everyday cooking.
As the City of Manila becomes the first stop of this year's caravan, the program will continue to reach more communities across the country in partnership with local government units and community organizations.
For moms, the takeaway is both simple and encouraging: healthy eating doesn't have to mean preparing elaborate meals or forcing children to eat vegetables they dislike. Sometimes, all it takes is a little creativity, practical cooking knowledge, and the willingness to try something new.
Because at the end of the day, every healthy family starts with small choices made around the dining table, one delicious, veggie-filled meal at a time.
